Mr. Smith in his article has inaccurately portrayed Srila Prabhupada’s position and has made some serious accusations against Srila Narayana Maharaja. By writing this article Mr. Smith, you criticized and blasphemed both my Spiritual Master Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja. Consider this Mr. Smith, Narada Muni is universally accepted as tri-kala-jna, Knowing past present and future. Yet in the 10th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, the following verses show how he once used his vision to encourage Kamsa to kill all the children of Devaki, although he knew only the 8th child would kill him:
“Once the great saint Narada approached Kamsa and informed him of how the demoniac persons who were a great burden on the earth were going to be killed. Thus Kamsa was placed into great fear and doubt. 10.1.64
In his previous birth, Kamsa had been a great demon named Kalanemi and been killed by Visnu. Upon learning this information from Narada, Kamsa became envious of everyone connected with the Yadu dynasty. 10.1.68
After the departure of the great saint Narada, Kamsa thought that all the members of the Yadu dynasty were demigods and that any of the children born from the womb of Devaki might be Visnu. Fearing his death, Kamsa arrested Vasudeva and Devaki and chained them with iron shackles. Suspecting each of the children to be Visnu, Kamsa killed them one after another because of the prophecy that Visnu would kill him. 10.1.65 & 66
Srila Prabhupada’s purport to 10.1.65: Srila Jiva Goswami, in his notes on this verse, has mentioned how Narada Muni gave Kamsa this information. This incident is described in the Hari-vamsa. Narada Muni went to see Kamsa by providence and Kamsa received him very well. Narada, therefore, informed him that any one of the sons of Devaki might be Visnu. Because Visnu was to kill him, Kamsa should not spare any of Devaki's children, Narada Muni advised….. Upon receiving the instructions of Narada Muni, Kamsa killed all the children of Devaki one after another.”
So Mr. Smith, Narada Muni used his powers of tri-kala-jna to frighten Kamsa into killing all the children of Devaki even though he knew that all of them were innocent and only the 8th child would kill him. Is Narada Muni responsible for infanticide because he used his powers of tri-kala-jna to encourage Kamsa to kill innocent children? Or are you going to accuse Sukadeva Goswami of having the four defects for suggesting Narada Muni is tri-kala-jna?
Do you, like so many devotees, like to ascribe a kind of mythological position to the gurus you read about in Srimad Bhagavatam but impose human frailties on the ones you meet in person. Is it your belief that Narada Muni can be tri-kala-jna because you have read about his mythological mystic powers in the Srimad Bhagavatam, but Srila Prabhupada could not because you saw him in person and he did not look like he could do the trick? My Srila Prabhupada who made cancer vanish, and made the rain fall, and remained fully conscious even though under anesthesia, you think he cannot be tri-kala-jna because if he knew everything, he would never let children be molested in Gurukula? Is this your thinking?
Not only did Narada Muni know what happened to Kamsa in his previous birth but he also knew what would happen in the future if he told him about the possibility of any of the children being Visnu. Still Narada Muni encouraged Kamsa to murder the children. So Mr. Smith, do you want to charge Narada Muni with infanticide? Or do you want to accuse Sukadeva Goswami of having the four defects because he calls Narada Muni tri-kala-jna?
Or are you going to accept this as truth only because it is in scripture and reject that these powers can be ascribed to Srila Prabhupada because he appeared before your eyes as a mere mortal? Who is really full of the four defects Mr. Smith? It is YOU! You who doubt the other verses in scripture about the supremely transcendental position of the Guru like Sarva Deva Maya Guru “The guru is the sum total of the demigods.” That means that Srila Prabhupada can create the universe like Lord Brahma, destroy it like Lord Siva, and fly in the sky with a vina like Narada Muni if he wants to, but because of your lack of faith and ignorance of the scriptures you have denigrated him on this website with your article! Do not offend my Srila Prabhupada with your articles ascribing human frailties to his supremely transcendental personality. Furthermore do not offend my Siksha Guru Srila Narayana Maharaja by ascribing to him your faults and defects because he accepts the supremely transcendental position of Srila Prabhupada and describes him as being decorated with those transcendental qualities.
The first 6 sons of Devaki were the 6 Vasus who had ignorantly criticized Lord Brahma when he chased his daughter Vak to have a sexual relationship with her. Because the 6 Vasus did not understand that Lord Brahma in his role as creator was instructing the universe in the dangers of sexual desires, Lord Brahma cursed them to take birth in human form and be killed. Hence Narda Muni used his tri-kala-jna powers to help fulfill the karma of the 6 Vasus. Why did Srila Prabhupada allow children to be molested if he was tri-kal-jna and knew about it? Was it because the children were also getting their karma and would have suffered even worse if they were not devotees? Or is there some other karmic reason behind it. We will probably never know. What we do know is that when Srila Prabhupada was presented with the first known offender he had him banished for life, although the extremely compassionate devotees did not uphold the instructions after Srila Prabhupada left this world and allowed him back in. It was my dogged pursuit of him and my constant vocalization of Srila Prabhupada’s order and my exposing him everywhere at every opportunity that finally resulted in my getting the grown up Gurukula boys to make it clear to him that he was no longer allowed in the society because all my attempts to get the GBC and temple presidents to do anything about it went to naught. After the Gurukula boys gave him his walking papers he never returned.
When I was with Srila Prabhupada on a few occasions when he talked about the Gurukula and what it meant to him he was always expressing his deepest concerns for the welfare of the children. Although I was personally never involved in the Gurukula system, when I had the opportunity to render service to the children I always did it with the love and affection and care that Srila Prabhupada instilled in me to have for them even though at the time I was a Brahmachary. I receive calls and thanks from those children for the caring services I rendered to them all these years later, with remarks that those few days they spent with me were very happy days. In my Grhastha ashram I became a foster parent, and over the course of 9 years for various periods of time, I helped take care of over 70 children in my home who were physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. I write about these services I have rendered to children so that you will not waste your time trying to falsely accuse me of being insensitive to children -- an accusation that is, as you can see, false beyond a shadow of a doubt.
“Furthermore, in a purport to what Vijayadhvaja Tirtha of the Madhva Sampradaya accepts as a verse that should be in that same chapter of the Srimad Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada states the following: No one can blame Naradaji for encouraging Kamsa to kill the sons of Devaki. The saint Narada is always a well-wisher for human society, and he wanted the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, to descend to this world as soon as possible so that the society of demigods would be pleased and would see Kamsa and his friends killed by Krsna. Kamsa would also attain salvation from his nefarious activities and this too would very much please the demigods and their followers.”
My Srila Prabhupada in defending Sri Narada Muni is using the same language that Srila Narayana Maharaja uses in defending him by saying that “No one can blame Naradaji for encouraging Kamsa to kill the sons of Devaki. The saint Narada is always a well-wisher for human society.” Isn’t that what Srila Narayana Maharaja said about Srila Prabhupada in regards to ascribing some fault to him because he was tri-kala-jna but appeared to do something wrong? Here is Srila Narayana Maharajas quote, “Prabhupada did not do anything improper. He was sarvajna, and he wanted to do good for all.” My Srila Prabhupada is always the well wisher of everyone in Human society, animal society, and all other societies. Whatever happened to any devotee under his direct guidance is always for their ultimate benefit even though they are not able to see it that way. He is also decorated with all the transcendental qualities of a pure devotee as described in the scriptures like tri-kal-jna and both of these things are mutually compatible. Furthermore, just like Srila Prabhupada is glorified for his defense of Narada Muni in his purports of Srimad Bhagavatam similarly, greatly advanced pure devotees of the lord like Srila Narayana Maharaja who sing the glories of such a supremely transcendental personality as Srila Prabhupada are to be thanked and praised for their glorifications of Srila Prabhupada. Such personalities should not be ascribed with the four defects that are actually part of your conditioned nature Mr. Smith.
And for the record, Damodara Priya was wearing loose fitting slacks similar to a woman’s Punjabi pants, a blouse, a long sleeve sweater, and a scarf on her head. I was giving an informal talk to her and a few other devotees and a couple of Brahmacharis at someone's home in Venice Beach in the middle of the living room. A mentally ill woman who believes she is the incarnation of DURGA forcibly grabbed Damodara Priya out of the room against her will in the middle of my talk to exert her control over her and force her to put on a sari. My remark that she had enough clothes on for me was predicated on the fact that her entire body was covered including her head and she was therefore not being unchaste in her behavior and that the imitation Durga was being rude, controlling, and un-Vaishnava like in her behavior. Were these not enough clothes for you, George or do you like your women in Muslim Burkas walking behind you with a dozen children in tow while you carry a stick. Is that the way you like your women George, in the Dark Ages, under your control?
As far as Los Angeles Temple is concerned I was sent there by Srila Narayana Maharaja to maintain the daily spiritual programs of the temple and to run its day-to-day affairs. The board of trustees was charged with the responsibility for closing down and selling the temple, not I. So I would suggest that if you have any complaints about it closing down and the way it was closed down you should address your concerns to the Board of Trustees. Personally, I did not want to see the Temple closed down nor did I agree with the methods used for closing it down. However, I was not on the board of trustees and therefore had no vote in the matter or control over the situation.
From your article and your admission that you do not know me from 'atom' it appears that you have been misinformed about my participation in the process. I guess it goes with having the four defects, George. Don’t worry about it though, it just means that you are a conditioned soul like me and the rest of us writing on this site, and are struggling to become more Krishna Conscious. I wish you well with that George, I really do. I hope you can find it in your heart to apologize to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Narayana Maharaja and be forgiven for your offenses and make some real advancement in your spiritual life, George. Good Luck!
